In 1955, University of Texas chemistry graduate John G. Adams, Sr., oversaw the construction of a new facility to house his family-owned Adams Extract Company, a food-flavoring business created by his pharmacist grandfather. Located on the interregional highway south of Austin, the plant was considered one of the finest examples of mid-century modernism in Texas.
Forty-five years later, when Adams decided to consolidate and restructure his spreading enterprise, he called on Professor Steven Moore and his architecture students at UT Austin to help him conceptualize another landmark design.
