The University Tower reflected in a biology pond on campus

The University of Texas at Austin opened its doors in 1883 with eight faculty members. Today there are more than 2,500.

Recognized as one of the nation's premiere state universities for teaching and research, UT Austin has attained this standing, in large part, through the quality of its faculty.

Throughout the University's history, thousands of outstanding teachers and researchers have transformed the lives of the UT students who have studied with them. To honor deceased faculty members, the Faculty Council maintains a web site that provides memorial resolutions and biographical information about the men and women whose lives were devoted to higher education at The University of Texas at Austin.
