Larry Speck

Larry Speck left Friendswood, Texas--with its graduating class of 40 students--to attend MIT in 1967, then made his way back to his home state to teach architecture at The University of Texas at Austin and serve as dean of the School of Architecture from 1993-2001. He writes about architecture, teaches courses, designs major urban projects, and keeps an eye on the Campus Master Plan. He also participates in virtually every visionary, mission-oriented committee on campus.

Larry Speck understands "the vision thing." He sees the big picture. He is the most articulate spokesperson for the "Texas Theme," a resurgence of UT pride and spirit. And he's the most devoted believer in the transformative power of the University.
